2024 National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Futurity Champion Too Hot To Tagg and Kenny Platt marked a huge 227 in Abilene to win the 4-Year-Old Open Finals and take home $42,000. A 227 is the same score Too Hot To Tagg and Kenny Platt marked to win the NCHA Futurity in December.
The young roan is sired by EquiStat Elite $2 Million sire Hashtags and out of Too Hot (by Hottish). Only Too Hot’s second performance aged offspring, he brings her offspring earnings above $400,000. He is owned by the JH Nail Ranch Inc. of Albany, TX. He was bred by Wes and Lindy Ashlock before being purchased by 4 Horse Land & Cattle and then sold to JH Nail Ranch after the Western Bloodstock NCHA Futurity Sale.
Platt nicknamed the gelding “Hushpuppy” after his joking nickname for the horse’s sire “Hashbrowns.” With his two recent wins, Hushpuppy has become his Hashtags‘ third highest earning offspring on record. Although the horse’s owners purchased Hushpuppy while he was a stud, Platt quickly advised them to geld the horse. They gave permission for the procedure to be done as they wanted the best life for him.
Platt stated his satisfaction with the horse after the futurity win and said he’d always thought the roan would turn out a great show horse.
The Abilene Spectacular wasn’t a walk in the park for the successful duo, they marked a 219.5 in the first go round before marking their winning 227 in the finals.
