When 20 of the top 4-year-olds in the industry stepped into the pen for the 2025 National Cutting Horse Association Summer Spectacular Open Derby Finals, it was Platt and his gelding by Hashtags and out of Too Hot who rose to the top.

Kenny Platt and Too Hot To Tagg marked a 224 to win the Open Derby at the 2025 NCHA Summer Spectacular, securing the championship title and a $56,297.13 paycheck for owner JH Nail Ranch, Inc.
The 2019 gelding by Hashtags and out of Too Hot entered the show with over $605,000 in lifetime earnings. With this latest win, he now surpasses the $700,000 mark.

On top of the championship title, Too Hot To Tagg swept the incentive payouts—taking home $34,500 as the highest-placing horse in the Valley Equine Super Stallion Incentive, as well as checks for the Gelding Incentive and Chrome Cash.
“This horse has been solid from the start,” said Jamie Nail of JH Nail Ranch. “Kenny’s done a great job managing him and putting him in a position to succeed. We’re proud of this one.”
With the win, Too Hot To Tagg moves back into the top position in the race for 2025 NCHA Open Horse of the Year, solidifying his standing as one of the most consistent and dominant horses in the sport this year.
The win also marks the second consecutive year that Hashtags has sired the Summer Spectacular Open Derby Champion. In 2024, Jazlyn—also by Hashtags and shown by James Payne—claimed the title with a standout 230-point run.
