If you’ve been watching Marty Yates in the rodeo or futurity arenas lately… no, you’re not seeing double. He has two bay geldings that are serving as core mounts when he backs in the box.
Yates has been stacking up wins on two standout Hashtags offspring, proving that this sire’s influence stretches across both futurity calf roping and pro rodeo ranks. And at the Royal Crown All Age Calf Roping in Guthrie, Oklahoma, Yates showcased the full power of that pedigree — sweeping first and second in the average aboard SR Beefcake and TLC Stuntin Like Dad and pulling in over $10,000 from the pay window in a single afternoon.
Built To Win
SR Beefcake, a 2019 gelding by Hashtags out of Soupahot, came into the Royal Crown with over $25,000 in lifetime earnings. After clocking a 32.84 on three head to secure the All Ages Calf Roping Title, “Snoop” will now push well past that, adding another $7,200 to his record.
Marty and “Snoop” threw it together for a Round 1 Win good for $750 and a second place finish in Round 2 advancing them to the Short Go where they secured the Average Win good for $1,350 and $4,680 in the Royal Crown Sidepot.
They also posted the second-highest score in the short round of the 6 & Under Calf Roping, adding another $750 to his Guthrie haul.
Side Note: “Snoop” came to Marty and Loni Yates when they purchased him from Jason Schaffer following RodeoHouston. Marty didn’t have Snoop at all for the winter rodeos except for San Angelo, where he marked a fast 7.1 to win the round with the second- fastest time of the entire rodeo. The duo came back in the final round with a 7.6 for the round win and second in the average where they picked up $17,445.
Stuntin’ On Em
Not far behind in the average of the All Ages Calf Roping was TLC Stuntin Like Dad, a 2019 gelding by Hashtags out of Zacks Heiress, who secured second with a 38.55 average time. This duo not only delivered in the All Ages class but also secured second place in Round 1 of the 6 & Under Calf Roping. Already an earner of over $50,000 prior to Guthrie, “Tag” added another $4,300 to his stack of lifetime earnings. Marty and the bay gelding are no stranger to the winner’s circle of the futurity arena, this team picked up the championship title at the 2024 Gold Buckle Futurities in Abilene.
Marty and Loni Yates purchased TLC Stuntin Like Dad as a three-year-old, and as Marty puts it, “He’s been pretty cool. My wife, she’s had some success on him — we bought him as a three-year-old and purchased a slot for the RFA. He had never had a calf run on him out of the box, and it was just a shot in the dark. We put two months on him, and then Loni went and did really good on him at the RFA. He’s just a natural winner; he’s really gritty. I’ve done a lot of stuff out in the pasture on him, he’s got a lot of heart and a lot of go. I know what that horse has in him, and it’s just really cool to dial him in.”
The Power of Incentives
